OKANAGAN HOCKEY ACADEMY: BOTTOM OF THE BARREL

How does Okanagan Hockey Academy stack up with other TRUE prep schools academically and with respect to hockey quality?  The following comment gives an interesting and thoughtful perspective:

"Notre Dame and Shattuck St. Mary's have a number of teams within specific age brackets. This means your player has to be a top player to play on their top team. If they aren't, they will put them on a more developmental team. They both have good programs and have a lot more depth than OHA. Their lesser teams would run over OHA's best teams. Both of these schools do not billet the players as they live in dorms. Both of them also offer much better academic opportunities for the about the same money as OHA. For what OHA charges you should be getting a prep school education. You get it at ND and SSM. You don't at OHA. The money actually goes in the owners pockets and the Americans fund their Canadian friends that can't afford to play there. As you would expect at OHA the more affluent players are Americans, while the less affluent are the Canadian cronies of the Kerr's. I guess OHA is pretty good if you are looking for a over priced, mediocre hockey program, mediocre public education, while paying a premium for others to attend for free. The owners of OHA seem to think that is a hell of a deal."

There were many local freebee boys this year and they all ended up on Alan's team! It's all about taking care of your friends and using the foreigner boys to fund them. This program is DOA

You wonder how it could be worse than it was this year, yet I suspect what few good players they had left will be gone this coming year. I saw Alan's team play this year and was really shocked at the low caliber of the team. Most all of the better U16 AAA teams in the US would kill those guys. Its a little sad the program has fallen to where it is. There was a time when they had a pretty good organization with quality players. Most all of them have left. They may have a lot more trouble this year funding their buddies in that people seem to have caught on to them.

I just was informed of the other academy site, the one where they are trying to make things sound like all is well, and I was astonished to see the academy is taking credit for the success of Sahir Gill in Vernon and Mitch Chapman in Salmon Arm, the Truth of these 2 players is that they were both told by the academy that they were not ready for junior hockey yet, they wanted both players to play in the Academy midget team with Alan as there coach. Both players said go and pump sand, I am good enough to play junior on my own merrit and they both did so, ask those 2 players how the academy helped them move to the next level, when in fact they did the opposite, they tried to force the kids to stay and pay for another year. What a crock of shit. these players are being exploited and they are taking credit for players they didn't actually develope, they want you to come to the academy for as long as you are gullable enough to keep playing, this is very sad. The simple truth is if you are talented enough, you will not need any academy to help you players succeed. Shame on the parents who are stupid enough to buy into this nonsence. I did,but soon figured it out for myself

There were no "freebies" for local boys and yes they pay less because they don't have billet fees...Don't know where this info comes from....so much mis-informaion!!

Hey if you think the fees aren't negotiable at OHA you are really gullable. There are players there that don't pay a cent and it isn't because they are great players who raise the profile of the school. I think its funny that they treat most of all the players like crap until they get out and have success and then they have the balls to take credit for their assention. These guys beat all except on the ice! Anybody that really knows these guys know what a bunch of fools they really are. Only a dope would pay good money to send their kid to them.

i guess the misinformation comes from the guy that says he got the freebie

I'm sure they will be selling prospective new "fish" in Dallas and out west at the Global Showcase in Las Vegas this year. They have a line of crap a mile long. Unfortunately, they don't have the teams to back up their BS. I would bet they are back at the bottom of the barrel again this year just like the last two. No top player would waste his time up there much less pay their outrageous price. Buyer beware!
